The Body Shop All in One BB Cream Review – Light 01

BB Beautiful – The Body Shop BB Cream review

Apr 6, 2013

I think that every make up wearing person in the world has probably tried at least one BB cream since they took the Western beauty industry by storm last year. We were very behind the times so it seems as the first BB cream was developed in Germany in the 60′s to protect the skin after surgery, The Korean and Japanese markets realised the potential and brought it to their beauty devotees in 1985.

Since last year we have been inundated with versions of this wonder product right from the very expensive to the attainable high street. The silver lining of giving the BB cream a try now is that companies who have just brought out their version have had longer to research what they want to bring to the table.

Last year I gave three different BB creams a try. Two got passed on to friends after just a couple of uses and the other which was a Maybelline one has sat in my draw ever since unused and unloved. There are two things that will turn me off of a face base straight away…

Colour/shade – My skin is slightly paler than MAC NC15 so anything that is warmer needs a lot of blending but because BB creams come in generic shades such as Light-medium-dark it makes it almost impossible to blend them enough.

Feel – I hate being able to feel base on my skin. I never wear medium/full coverage because of this. As long as the base evens out my skin tone I’m happy to stop there. All the BB creams I have tried have fallen at these hurdles… Until now

So it’s safe to say that I was hoping Body Shop’s All in One BB Cream wasn’t going to spoil the record. First impression is always on the packaging and TBS have nailed it in my opinion. The tube is small but it has the standard amount within. The silver and black scheme makes it look more expensive than it is which is always a bonus.

Before Body Shop BB Cream

Our Sammy before Body Shop BB Cream

The product itself is white but you can see little particles that burst and release the pigment. I was very concerned when the cream turned from white to yellow and thought that I was going to have to rock the Oompa Loompa look but once I was done the match was perfect. On this occasion light really did fit the bill. It really just feels like moisturiser when you massage it in and I couldn’t tell I was wearing it.

On the skin I would say the coverage is light, it evens out where you need it to but doesn’t cover every thing like a heavy mask. I just used my hands but buffed the edges in just to make sure it was all ok.

After 6 hours of wear Body Shop BB Cream

After 6 hours of wear

I knew that I was going to have issues with oil control so I used my matte primer underneath, it just so happens it is a TBS one I bought on a whim and won’t use any other now. I managed to get from 9am to 3pm without needing to powder so not bad really. I took my make up off at 8pm and there was still BB cream there, it hadn’t rolled off or gone patchy.

I will wear this again and can see it being perfect for work or everyday where a foundation just seems like too much. I would really say give this BB cream a try because if you have written them off before like I did – this might just change your opinion. And we can never have too many base choices can we?

Available in 3 shades, retails for £12.

Have you tried a BB cream that you have been blown away by?

Hmmm is it the light or does it give you a yellowy cast? Might be my screen’s representation of the picture but I think I prefer your skin in the before! X

To be honest is does have a yellow edge to it but I just think its because Im super pale. I also found out of direct sunlight it can make it look too dark for me. The shades are definitely yellow based

Great review! Have you tried the Ginvera Nude Cover BB cream yet? It’s the best ever and works wonders on both men and women’s skin. You should give it a go… :-)

Hi! To be honest I have been a bit sceptical of BB creams because of the shade range. I will certainly look into it now I know there are good BB creams out there .

I’m always looking for creams that give a nice and easy feel. The feel of base on the skin is unbearable for me as well. One of my friends has some good thoughts about this cream too, so after reading your post I think I’d better go and try it out.

Hi Ana – I tried the BB cream when I was at TBS with Sammy the other day and it really has a good texture, and it’s easy to apply. Maybe you can get a sample to try if you ask! Thanks for stopping by xoxo

If I was buying this again I would definitely ask them to apply it to your face and then wear it for the day. On closer inspection the colour looks like it darkens after a while on me at least.
When and I went to TBS and swatched all three shades the medium shade look a little lighter but more pink in tone than the yellow of the light shade.
      For £12 it’s still a good buy.

Thanks for this review – I am yet (unfortunately) to find a BB that doesn’t break me out! So far my favourite has been THEFACESHOP’s Power Perfection BB as it has medium coverage (which you can build further if needed) and it gives the skin a healthy rather than oily glow.

The western ones I’ve tried to date have been far too sheer! :(

Well so far all the BB creams I’ve tried have given me oily face too, but I’d sacrifice that issue for some decent coverage like you say.

We’ll add The Face Shop one to the list – thanks for you comment and stop by xoxo
