Sammy’s review – LUSH Big Hair

Sammy’s review – LUSH Big Hair

Dec 17, 2012 Hair & Nails 9 Comments

To me, my hair is a big pain! I long to be one of those people who can leave at least one day in between washes but I am not that lucky. I wash my hair every day without fail and the thought of using dry shampoo to skip a day fills me with dread!

I thought that I had cracked the code when I found using a clarifying shampoo everyday meant that I could at least get to the end of the working day without hiding my head under a hat.

Then I found Youtube! One beauty guru waxed lyrical about Lush and their range of shampoos. I had been in Lush before and bought the odd bath bomb and chunk of soap but never thought of checking out the shampoos. How could a brand that sold natural almost hand made products make a shampoo strong enough to cope with me, my OCD hair issue and the grease? Very well as it turned out!

I tried my luck with two of their shampoos. Now imagine at this point fireworks going off, the Ding Ding Dings of the jackpot at a casino with accompanying streamers and glitter!!! That was a year ago and for the first time EVER I have not bought any other shampoos, and don’t plan to. One of the shampoos I will tell you about another day and then there was “Big”.

Lush Big Hair

Don’t let it’s resemblance to lumpy wall paper paste put you off, this is an absolute gem. The guys at Lush describe the smell of BIG as of Neroli, Orange flower absolute and Vanilla. To be honest I don’t get any of that, to me it smells like its ingredients of Sea salt, Seaweed and lemons and Limes. It makes for a very fresh, Oceanic fragrance.

I recommended this shampoo to as I thought it would be right up her Skin scrub street (try saying that 3 times fast!) The Sea salt makes this shampoo like a scrub for your scalp. For my extremely oily hair the scrub effect means my scalp and hair feels so very clean, and the salt flakes makes it feel like you are having a mini scalp massage…sounds good right? I only wash my hair once with this so there is no wash rinse and repeat for me. I would certainly say you need a good conditioner to go hand in hand with this especially if you are using it as a once a week clarifying treatment.

Now I am sure no hair dresser would recommend this but I am going to share a little tip with you. My hair dresser told me to not wash my hair on the morning of my wedding… Like that was ever going to happen. So what I did to make my soft when clean hair easier to work with was to wash my hair with Big and then skip the conditioner. My hair was still shiny and looked healthy but the sea salt in Big meant that my hair had the same quality of 2nd day hair. My up do lasted all day and still the grease didn’t make an appearance. I am not saying do this often but when you have an important day it’s a tip to make life easier.

So all in all Big is my holy grail shampoo and the fact that I have 3 empty pots waiting to go back shows I’m not going to stray. This is £11.25 for 330g, Vegan and never tested on our furry little friends!

I would love to know if anyone else has tried this or have found their favourite shampoo at Lush.

Great review, Big sounds like just what I need for my hair! It’s interesting that it’s got a scrubby texture though. Might give it a try next time I go shopping x

Ooh this sounds great! I’m lucky in that I can get away with washing my hair every 2nd or 3rd day, but I am yet to try any of Lush’s shampoos and this has inspired me to check them out! :) Have a happy new year!

Happy New Year!! Not wanting to come across as a Lush spokes person or anything but I am sure that I have seen a dry shampoo in there for lucky 2nd day hair people like your gorgeous self!
