My sad little makeup collection part 3 – Eyeliners and mascaras
Well from the comments I received on my other 2 posts about my foundations and concealers I guess I can stop apologising for the little collection that I have. You’ve all been really kind (not that I thought anyone would be nasty or trollish about it).
So the next installment is my collection of eyeliners and mascaras which I’m sure you’ve realised will be dinky.
Eyeliners from Barry M and Clinique. I seem to have this obsession with green eyeliner and it’s always my default. I have green eyes so that may be why and I don’t know if it’s the best choice but it makes me happy.
From left to right swatched: Barry M 17, Clinique 208 Blackened Teal, and Clinique Quick Eyes in Khaki eyeliner and shadow. I love Quick Eyes and I’ve been using the Khaki one for at least 15 years! It’s a lovely warm olive green with a bit of gold and using the shadow over it sets the eyeliner.
One YSL Long Lasting Eye Pencil and two more Clinique Quick Eyes. Can you see a theme here?
Swatched from left to right: YSL 6, Clinique Quick Eyes in Double Coffee eyeliner and shadow, Clinique Quick Eyes in Sable eyeliner and shadow. I’ve used all three of these mostly for work. The Sable can sometimes be a little too reddish. The Double Coffee and 6 are good alternatives to black.
These are the other ends of the Clinque Quick Eyes. There is eyeshadow and a sponge and you can use it with the eyeliner or alone. If you use the eyeshadow end on it’s own the colours come out very light. I like to use the eyeshadow under my lower lashes as it deposits colour without leaving a harsh line.
Onto the mascaras now, there’s only three and they probably all need to be binned!
Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof mascara, doesn’t everyone have one of these in their makeup collection? I reviewed this back in August after my friend Christine’s wedding. I was bawling my eyes out the entire time and this prevented me looking like Heath Ledger (God rest his soul) in the Joker.
Clinique High Impact mascara in black. This is a sample size so it must have come from a GWP, but I can’t remember the last time I bought Clinique so this is probably expired ten times over. I do like the fat fluffy brush on this one, it gets all the little light eyelash hairs that you can’t see.
Loreal Telescopic Mascara in carbon black. I bought this ‘new fangled’ wand so that I could keep up with trends but I hate it. It’s too thin and too flexible. I guess it could work for someone people but I prefer the old fashioned bigger brush that doesn’t move.
Well there you have it, I definitely need some new mascaras. My favourite one which I don’t own at the moment is Clinique Glossy Mascara in Jet Brown. I like the formulation and the brush is just big enough. However, I think no matter which mascara formulation I’ve used over the years the brush still gets gunky. I always clean mine off with a strong kitchen/paper towel. Because the fibres in kitchen towel are a tighter weave than normal tissue, you don’t get any bits on the mascara wand.
Thanks for reading – hope you enjoyed this post. The next installment will be eyeshadow and blusher.
