’s review – Dr. Organic Cuticle and Nail Solution

This is my second Dr. Organic product, I reviewed the Manuka Honey Face Scrub a few months back and I was quite happy with the results for the price. Dr. Organic is sold at Holland & Barrett online and in store.

So what is Manuka Honey? I had to Google it myself and here is what I found out on a UK based Manuka Honey website:

Manuka honey comes from New Zealand where beekeepers set up their hives in wild uncultivted areas in which Manuka bushes grow. The bees gather nectar from the flowers of the Manuka bush, which is indigenous only to New Zealand. The honey making process is enriched by the pollution free environment of New Zealand, and certain harvests of Manuka Honey have attracted the gaze of the medicial and scientific community. Some of the Manuka Honey produced has been found to have some very special properties indeed.

So with that in mind, how does this do? It’s meant to restore dry, cracked and ridged nails and soothe irritated cuticles. If you get regular manicures you probably don’t have cuticle issues so whether this would useful or not I don’t know.

Now as you can see from the picture above I have ridgy nails and always have. They do become drier when I am frequently painting my nails, so every few weeks I have a break from polish and use this as an intensive treatment. All you need is a little bit to get around the nail itself, cuticle and the sides. I’m lucky that I have quite strong nails already – they are quite hard and don’t peel or crack. My biggest problem is the skin around my nails, I get a lot of little hang nails. You know those little bits of skin that peel back and hurt if they get caught on things. Although I use hand cream on a regular basis several times a day this keeps the skin on the sides of nails (nail groove) really hydrated.

I always have this in my handbag and apply it when I’m at work on a polish free week. It can be a little greasy/waxy to apply but it’s not oily so it doesn’t drip everywhere. It will eventually absorb into the skin so you don’t have to worry about having slippery fingers all day. I apply it several times a day, usually after I’ve washed my hands. The only thing that I’m not super keen on is the honey scent. It’s quite intense just like the face scrub. I would buy this again but when it runs out I’m going to try the Organic Virgin Olive Oil version then maybe my hands will smell like salad instead!

This is currently on offer at Holland & Barrett for £6.19!
