R.I.P. my beauties

R.I.P. my beauties

Discontinued – it’s the one word every beauty junkie doesn’t want to hear. Companies always have their reasons for get rid of our favourites; falling sales, making room for new product lines, or even worse the ‘we’ve shipped all our stock to our shop in the Sahara Desert as it sells better’ excuse. The big ‘D’ happened to me recently with a few things, two of which I’ve only tried in the last few months.

Naked Glowing Rice Shower Scrub – The super fabulous Fee over at Makeup Savvy sent me this knowing how much I love my scrubs…what gave her that impression I wonder? Anywho, I started to write review a few weeks back and I was looking to link to the Naked website in my post and I couldn’t find it anywhere on the website. Then I went to the Boots website and nothing, nada!? I tweety tweeted over to Naked the next day and sho-nuff it’s no longer available. Even though it’s going the way of the Dodo, I’m going to tell you about it anyway. It’s a gentle body polish which I know really isn’t me but comes in handy when I’m feeling under the weather. Even when I’m not well I still need to exfoliate my bod. I normally eschew creamy scrubs as they usually don’t have enough grit but this definitely does. And the smell, well it reminds me of 7up or Ginger Ale. I’m using it sparingly now!

Boots Henna & Horse Chestnut Intensive Hair Mask – This unassuming plastic tub of goo wouldn’t win any awards for the packaging but as I recently found out for the price it’s a great conditioner. It was hiding on the bottom shelf of my local Boots and I should have known something was up. After I posted my review a few people left comments saying they loved this conditioner but they couldn’t find it anymore. Then last week ‘Erica’ told me that it has definitely been discontinued as confirmed by Boots themselves. I feel more sorry for her as she’s been using it for 15 years! The reason given for it’s demise was ‘to make way for new ranges’. Hopefully it will come back in a new incarnation!

Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena Daily High Later Scrub – Now this has been discontinued for sometime but I thought I’d throw it into the obituary. B & BW come out with a zillion products all the time, so if something is discontinued it will usually come back in a different package with a slightly different name. The Coconut Lime Verbena fragrance is still going but you can’t get any scrubs with this scent. My mom bought a few for Jamie and sent them over before they disappeared completely.

So ladies what discontinued goodies have turned you into a beauty widow?

Great post! I’m usually not very worried about any skincare products being discountinued, because I change them all the time, but I am quite anxious about the day when I use up my Viva Glam Cyndi lipstick…

I agree with you about the skincare, I’ve never really gotten attached to one product as there is always something to replace it. Hopefully when your lipstick runs out MAC will have come up with a similar alternative! :D

It’s always gutting when products you love are discontinued! :( I remember when Lush discontinued a few favourites of mine! I’m hoping that they’ll bring them back out in the retro section though!

At least Lush recognise there are people that still love the discontinued items and try to make them available via mail order. With most companies once something is gone it’s gone!

*sob!* Ooooh I feel your pain buddy! I finally found the perfect face wash (rosemary & witch hazel) that kept my skin completely spot/blemish free as well as the perfect cleanser/toner/moisturiser range but alas…..ALL were discontinued!!! Twas Boots who did this to moi & yet I still keep going back to them, praying that the new products I find & grow to love will still be there the next month! Why do I dot his to myself, will I never learn?! Lol! Have you noticed though that they DO have a habit of discontinuing a lot of products? Hmmm :/

Love Aysh xoxo

I think you are onto something there, Boots do like to chop and change a lot which I guess they feel pressurised to do to keep things fresh but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Even though the conditioner is discontinued it won’t stop me from checking the shelf it used to be on every time I go in there *just in case*

I chucked about 3 tubs of the Boots Henna and Horse chestnut intensive conditioner away because it began to irritate my scalp, if I’d have know I’d have passed it on. I can’t think of an products I’ve used which I’ve loved which have been discontinued…hmmm you’ve got me thinking now! x
