Quick review – Lush Coalface

by on July 29, 2017 · 18 comments

I’m sure I’ve mentioned on more than one occasion that I love all things dirt, clay and other earthly elements to cleanse my face with. Lush Coalface was always going to make it’s way into my bathroom – it was just a matter of time.

This beautiful charcoal grey bar of loveliness makes your face squeaky clean – it takes off whatever is on your face but it doesn’t leave it tight and dry. This lathers quickly to give you a nice asphalt coloured foam and I think there are few bits of grit thrown in for good measure but they are few are far between so don’t worry about this being too rough. You really have to love the scent of licorice and aniseed which I actually hate, but it doesn’t stop me from using this.

The only snag with Coalface is that being a soap bar, how do you stop it from melting? After nearly 41 years I’ve finally bought a clue when it comes to use facial soap. Cut it off into little chunks so it doesn’t turn to sludge, then you don’t end up throwing it away because it’s been sat in a pool of fetid water. Also by cutting off chunks it makes this last longer. I can change up my cleansers when this runs out and then I can go back to it when I want to. Everyone wins! What is your favourite Lush cleanser?Tagged as: Lush

Thanks VM, you’d think some things would be so obvious but it took me ages to realise doh!

This does sound interesting, but being a soap, does it contain SLS? I’m kind of afraid of that squeaky clean feeling…

Yes this does contain SLS! So if that’s not your bag then avoid this one hun. x

Have you ever tried Lush’s Dark Angels cleanser? If you like dirt and things of that nature, I think you’ll enjoy that cleanser!

My other half loves this stuff, we cut it into cubes and store in an airtight box. I love the smell of this but I can’t use it on my own face which is a bit upsetting! Great review xx

Jamie loves it too but he likes to use it to wash his hands which can be quite annoying if I’m using it to wash my face. Your fella sounds a bit more clever than mine he he! x

I do like this one, have you tried keeping it in a soap dish where the water drips through in to an under dish type thing? They are good for lush shampoo bars too

I know what you are talking about and I’ve never really found a good one. I want a really nice painted enamel one. If you know any websites that sell them let me know. xoxo

I love coalface! I’ve reviewed it before on my blog too!

I have this great thing that I put my soaps on. All the water drains from it and it keeps my soaps dry! That way, my soap is never mushy!!! I’ve had this thing for years and have no idea where I got it from. Should I do a blog post about it?

    ReplyJuly 31, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Yes please do a blog post about it, maybe I can find one similar to it. I’ve tried every soap dish that I can get a hold off and they still melt my soap. x
