Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser Review

Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser 150ml

Back in the 90′s when I was listening to Pearl Jam and Soundgarden I went through a big Kiehl’s Creme de Corps and Ultra Facial Moisturiser phase and used nothing else. Well I did use other stuff but these were my favourites. When I moved to the UK in ’96 I was a student and things like Kiehl’s went out the window. Now 14 years later I thought I should give them another look.

I was immediately attracted to this because I love mud, salt, earth, dirt whatever you want to call it. Did I think this was going to be full of rocks and asphalt to scrub my face raw – of course! However this doesn’t have the exfoliation particles that I was expecting. The texture is unlike anything I’ve ever used I would liken it to watered down cottage cheese. It’s squidgy and soft and it smells clean like my art room high school when we use to do pottery if that makes any sense. It goes on like wallpaper paste so if there are any scrubbing grains you can’t feel them – this isn’t a bad thing though!

This is for normal to oily skin and promises to draw out impurities minimise pores with the help of Amazonian White Clay. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’ve been getting lots of whiteheads (very pretty) popping up on my chin area. I must have a lot of grime on my face for the clay to absorb. I rarely get spots anywhere else but my chin has been busier than Piccadilly Circus since I started using this. My pores haven’t vanished but they aren’t as noticeable particularly on my nose. I like using this in the morning, it’s very gentle and feels really lovely to use. My face always feels soft and very clean afterwards. I have discovered that if I use it everyday my skin can get a bit tight so I’ve switched to using every couple of days.

The cleanser has been a very pleasant surprise for me and this will definitely be going on my re-buy list it’s too good not to. I’m glad I’ve rediscovered Kiehl’s, this is the perfect winter face wash for my oily skin.

This is available at Mankind for £17.50.

  1. The texture sounds really interesting. To my shame, I’ve never actually tried any Kiehl’s products. I don’t quite know how I managed it as the creme de corps and lip balm were THE thing in the 90′s. I was probably too busy spending my pennies in the bar. Ooops!
