How do you like your lip balms – Stick, tube, pot, tin, or slider?

by on February 20, 2017 · 29 commentsI like to think I have a good lip balm collection although I’m sure mine is small fry compared to some others. It will probably take me a few years to get through these unlike my scrubs and shower gels which are finished in a couple of months. So ladies and gents when it comes to lip balm do you have preference in the format it comes in?Stick – I think this is the most common type of lip balm but don’t quote me on that. It’s easy to use and fits in your pocket and you don’t have to touch the product if you don’t want to. Tubes are usually plastic but I do remember having some Maybelline lip products in the late 70′s that I’m sure were in glass with a roller ball.Slider – These make any lip balm feel retro and I definitely had ones like these in the 70′s. The disadvantage with a slider is having to touch the product and if the lid isn’t secure you end up with crumbs in your balm!Pots – I realise that the little milk carton lip balms technically fall in the ‘stick’ category but they looked cute in the photo. Little rounds pots are quite feminine and can make the most normal everyday lip balm feel grown up.Tubes – I think tubes became fashionable again when Lancome brought out their ‘juicy tubes’ lip gloss. It’s easy to over do it with tubes because squeezing them is such fun.Tins – These can be the most fiddly to use and I find they tend to be more pretty than functional – but that doesn’t stop me from buying more!So what is your fave?

I prefer my lip balms in tins, oddly enough. It may not seem sanitary but you can always put tins ontop of toasters to kill bacteria via high heat! Tins aren’t as convenient but they’re soo much cuter

Was this just last week’s haul?

Hello Ashley – I know what you mean I love tins too. I bought a few lip balms from on10 at Sephora and they are rubbish lip balms but the tins are gorgeous. Thanks for stopping by, I’ve added myself to your followers list!

    A xoxo

@Zoe – funny and amusing as always, although I think Jamie would have noticed and heard this many lips balms coming through the door!

Goodness me, that is a LOT of lip balm! I think my preference is for a stick, though I probably have one of each at the moment with the exception of a pot. It takes a long time to work my way through them as I forget to apply them before lipstick.

Good morning Jane – yes it will take a me awhile to get through these but I’m always adding more to the collection. Jamie does ‘borrow’ the less girly ones from time to time and they disappear into his desk at work so that means I have to buy more! lol

Wow! I only have two lipbalms and I only use them morning and night unless my lips are especially dry but your collection is amazing and I want it!

Wow – that is some collection! I have three lip balms on the go – a tube in my bedside drawer for evening use, a stick in my makeup collection and a stick in my handbag. I’ve got an unopened stick as a backup as well – that’s it! I love the look of the sliders and tins – they’re so cute! xx

@Charlie @thebristolbeautyblog – Thanks ladies – I didn’t think my collection was that big but I suppose I use lip balm the way others use lipstick.

Yay! Someone else that loves lip balms the way I do. Your collection is amazing. I dread to think what my photograph would be like…*eek* I prefer balms to be in a stick format, as they are easier to use and less messy.

However, one of my favourite balms is a Victoria Secret and that comes in a little tin. Years ago it used to be called ‘Bedtime Balm’, now I don’t remember what they call it It’s very thick and has a minty scent. And woah mama, it stays on all night!! I love it so much that I have to stock up when I go to the States. Good job that a little pot lasts ages.

The other one I am loving at the moment is the Rejuvenating Lip Treatment by Rituals (think you can get that in John Lewis). Its got a slightly medicinal smell to it, but I kind of like that. I keep it on my desk at work. It’s in a stick format and is really nice to use.

    Thanks for sharing x

Thats an incredible amount of balms! I love tins most, I just love that they are so pretty and I used to collect tins in my teens so it harks back to that! I am after a particular Rose Balm at the moment as I am having a rose obsession currently!

I prefer stick form to the others, I have tins but everytime I use them I end up with left over product on my fingers and spend ages looking for a tissue to wipe it of on. Sticks are cleaner, mess free, and easy to apply…. Currently using Elizabeth Ardens 8hr lip balm… in stick form of course

Hi Leanne! Bedtime Balm you say? Mmm sounds good. You are also like me in that I like stuff to smell a bit old fashioned like a medicine cabinet. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hello Debbie – Are you talking about the Rose Love Balm from Jurlique? You can get it all Feelunique

Hello Sultry – You are right sticks are more practical. I use my stick ones more than the tins, sliders, and pots.

Greetings Miss A – Thanks for the compliments, Fee is a lovely chick for sending new readers my way. I’ve just tried to look at your blog but the link doesn’t work. Can you give me the url?

    Thanks beauty babes! xoxo

Crikey that’s a lot of lip balm!! I thought I was bad and I’ve only got about 10!! lol I tend to use tubes and sticks the most but I’m a complete sucker for anything that has a cool flavour or comes in a cute tin!

    Replybeautydiarist February 20, 2017 at 5:27 pm

Goodness, an extensive collection here, and interestingly it looks as if you have roughly the same no in each packaging. I am definately a tube or stick. I do have some pots but those are for the side of the bed. Great post. I am envious of your stash. Jan x

    Wow, lots of lip balm!

I prefer tubes or sticks… Either, really as long as I don’t have to dip my fingers in it.

Hello devine Ms. W! 10 is still a lot for lipbalm – Remember I only have a few lipsticks!

Good Evening Jan – You are right I do have a roughly the same amount in each format but it wasn’t planned that way. You’ve given me an idea though I should really buy enough so that I have the same amount of each……

    Hello Jen my fellow American – So you’re a non-dipper – I totally understand!

Thanks for stopping by ladies, I really appreciate it. A xoxo
