Homemade Skincare

’s homemade face scrubs, moisturiser, and face mask

A few months ago in October I spent the day with some friends making soaps and bath bombs. We got together again last weekend to make some homemade skincare products. The four of us spent the day mixing ingredients like mad scientists and giggling with joy over our creations (well I did anyway). I feel like this session was more successful than the first one.

Cranberry Lemon Face Scrub – This is made with grape seed oil, olive oil, cranberry seeds and lemon essential oil. I also put some mica powder in to turn it pink.

This cleanser is creamier than I would normally use and I don’t think I used enough essential oil to give it a strong scent. I do love the little cranberry seeds for exfoliation – is there anything fruit can’t do?

Lime & Salt Face Scrub – I was trying to mimic Lush’s Ocean Salt with this one. This also has grape seed and olive oil. I used mica powder for the colour along with large and small sea salt crystals for exfoliation. The lime essential oil is stronger in this one so I’m really happy with it.

I will probably use this on my body and my face like Ocean Salt. I don’t think Lush needs to panic just yet though!

Tea Tree & Eucalyptus Moisturiser with Q-10 – This was sooo easy to make. Just olive oil, beeswax, water and essential oils. I also added some anti-ageing Q-10 for good measure.

This is a much thicker consistency than I would normally use for a facial moisturiser. If I make this again I will thin it out. This batch will be good for my feet as the tea tree and eucalyptus essential oils are quite refreshing.

Peppermint & Kaolin Clay Face Mask – This again was quite easy to make as it just contains a few ingredients. I also added some purple mica powder to this to give it some colour.

This has a good consistency and the only thing I would change for next time is the essential oil. I used peppermint, I would like to try using something fruit scented.

My homemade skincare will only last a few weeks as they do not contain any preservatives and as some of them contain water I have to be careful as it can harbor bacteria. I’m starting to gain a new appreciation for how beauty products are made and making a note of all the unnecessary rubbish that actually goes into them. I’ll be using these over the next few weeks and do a review of ‘COPD’ skincare!

Ooooh, it all looks great! Can’t wait to read the review on these. I’ve been saying for an age that I want to make my own cosmetics but have been lazy and not done anything about doing a day course, even though one is held round the corner from where I live!!

Escpecially interested to know about the face scrub and moisturiser, they look ideal for dry skin.

@Mercee – The only reason I’ve got off my lazy bum to make this stuff is because I work with the girl that teaches it otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered myself. Will let you know how these turn out. x

Hi Nicoletta! It is loads of fun making your own stuff and it helps that I’ve had a very good teacher otherwise I wouldn’t have a clue as to what I was doing! x
