Floral & Hardy challenge part 2 – homemade strawberry hand scrub

by on September 7, 2012 · 4 comments

So last week I showed you an easy recipe to make a minty foot scrub as requested by Floral & Hardy garden design, and tonight it’s all about the hands! This homemade recipe is super easy and contains ingredients that most people already have kicking around. Making your own homemade goodies can be fun but a lot of people can be put off by the faffing around and mess, but I assure you this a hand scrub even a 5-year-old can make!

So you will need:

4 tablespoons brown sugar (do not use soft brown sugar or else you’ll end up with a paste)

4 strawberries – no more than this otherwise you’ll be wasting valuable fruit!

A dash of olive oil

Mush the strawberries up with your hands but don’t pulverise them otherwise you’ll get too much juice. Add the sugar and mix it with a small spoon. When you are happy with the consistency, add the dash of oil. Btw if you add too much oil, the ingredients get displaced and the olive oil will overpower everything. Your scrub should smell of strawberries and sugar – not like a salad!

Obviously you can tell from the above picture, this is still quite runny which is why it’s best to keep it in the fridge overnight to thicken up a bit. Plus it’s just nice to use it chilled straight from the icebox. Remember there are no preservatives in this so you need to use it within a few days to be on the safe side. Also make sure you put a label on it saying what it is, or you may find your other half/children trying to spread it on their toast in the morning!

Remember last week I mentioned Floral & Hardy’s contemporary garden section of their website? Well in the same vein of my post about bathrooms, I found several gardens that don’t look like mine! You know ones with furniture, plants, lighting, etc. Apparently my Day of the Triffids  style garden hasn’t caught on yet!

This sounds good enough to eat! It reminds me of when I used to mix my own sugar scrubs as a teenager, might have to start doing it again, especially as it’s strawberry season right now x

The good thing is you could eat although I don’t how good olive oil and strawberries would be. It’s a lot of fun making these though!
