Exfoliating American Sycamore Tree | COPD Beauty Blog

Exfoliation in nature…..

I’d like to introduce you to the American Sycamore tree aka Plantanus occidentalis. Of all the trees on my parents property this one is my favourite – not for it’s leaves or majestic heights but for its constant exfoliating bark! I know crazy right a tree that exfoliates, but as you can see when the dry dead ‘skin’ comes off there is newer, fresher, smoother bark underneath.

Now I’ve seen some good examples of why exfoliation is important but I think this illustrates it best. I love seeing how the dry nobbly bits fall away to reveal a smooth texture. So next time you ponder over whether or not to buy a face or body scrub – remember the mighty American Sycamore!

So nature lovers are there any British trees that you know of that do the same or am I the only one who notices these kinds of things?

The plane trees in London do that as a way of dealing with the pollution, I believe…
