Dear Beauty Blogger…..

I don’t care:

  • If you take a week or two off from blogging. I don’t need an apology or explanation because real life happens. If you are taking a hiatus for a couple of months then by all means tell me, I’ll be waiting when you get back.
  • If you don’t tell me your product review is a PR sample. If I regularly read your blog that means I already trust you to give an honest review. As long as you didn’t steal it – I don’t need to know how you got it.
  • If you want to blog about something else other than beauty. Pictures of your cat, what you had for tea, and your fashion hauls are welcome just don’t Instagram me to death.
  • If you get freebies at an event and then proceed to sell them on eBay when you get home. I’m not here to check up on what you do with press samples, I’ve got better things to do with my time.
  • How many followers you have to get until you reach 100, 1000, 10,000. You should be thinking about the readers like me that you already have, and then we’ll let the world know about your blog.
  • If you make money from blogging through sponsored posts, advertising, or affiliate links – it’s not a crime.

Yours sincerely

Hehe….either you’ve had it in your mind to do this post for a while or something annoyed you today, whatever the reason….I love it!

It’s been on my mind for some time now, especially after some of the #bbloggers chats and some of the other conversations on Twitter.

This really is very well said. Almost all bloggers are ‘guilty’ of at least one of these, which as you say, are not crimes. I know that I’ve apologised for not posting for a few days before, and only recently I’ve been asking myself “why!?” Let’s face it, most people read more than just a couple of blogs, so they probably don’t even notice if we didn’t post yesterday anyway, or whatever.

Hey Mel – glad you stopped by. Yes apologising every time you don’t post for a few days just stresses us out more than our readers. Like you said who’s going to notice if you don’t post for a couple of days? I’m usually about 3 weeks behind in my blog reading anyway so it would take me awhile to twig that someone blogged for a few days. Aside from that I don’t look at the date of the blog post either!

Very well said indeed. I’m guilty of n.2. I’ve started doing it a couple of yours ago after the new FTC guidelines came out. It’s true that I’m not in the US, but I think similar guidelines may be approved in other countries as well one day so I though why not implement them straight away? And I also felt like most of my readers at the time kinda expected it from me, you know? But I’m really tired of bloggers being accused of being a sell-outs because they get products for review or make money from blogging. As long as they’re honest, I don’t see anything wrong with it.

    ReplyAugust 21, 2012 at 11:04 pm

I know what you mean about using the FTC guidelines as a general good practice guide but I think bloggers that aren’t in the US seem to think it’s law to disclose anything and everything. Everyone forgets it could go the other way round and you could say you got stuff to review when you bought yourself just to make it look like you’ve had products sent to you.

If I like a blog how they get their products doesn’t matter to me!

Ha ha, well I am guilty of the first in spades but then that is who I am and I make no apologies for being true to form I am nothing if not consistent xx

Yes your comings and goings have are the stuff of legends, so I will exclude you from this faux pas! xoxo

Awesome post! I don’t care about any of these either but probably guilty of some x

Glad you are in the ‘don’t care’ club too! We’ve got better things to do with our time like waste hours on Pinterest!

    ReplySarah August 21, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Very well said! I will remember this when I have weeks where my blogging mojo goes walk-abouts! xx

    ReplyAugust 21, 2012 at 10:55 pm

Well if it isn’t mojo that goes on holiday it is finding the time! What did we do before blogging?
