Aesop Bitter Orange Astringent Toner 200ml

I’ve always gotten mixed messages about toners from consultants at beauty counters. Some say it’s necessary to your skincare regime. Others say that you don’t need it, your cleanser should do all the work for you. I think it really depends on your skin category, and how many products you are happy to use. I also think that if a toner smelled nice I would buy it even if it wasn’t for my skin type.

Aesop was founded in 1987 in Melbourne Australia. Aesop’s philosophy is to use high quality plant-based ingredients and other non-botanical elements such as anti-oxidants. With that in mind I bought this because of the name of the toner and the look of bottle! I love the old-fashioned apothecary style amber coloured glass and the simple label. But I have to say the Aesop website is pants! The pictures on the website don’t do the products justice, the navigation is rubbish, and there are broken links.

Okay rant over. This is quite pricey for a toner, I paid £32 for mine at Mankind. The smell is different not quite bitter orange but an old fashioned citrus medicine smell. You don’t need much to get a good clean and I’ve used this instead of washing my face when I’ve been to lazy to do it properly. This is also good for getting rid of face mask residue or hair colouring from you skin. I only use this in the summer months though when my face is more oily and prone to breakouts. Once it starts getting colder and the air drier I then swap over to something more gentle. If you are reading this review from somewhere outside the UK that has a humid climate, this would probably work for you all year round.
